Marble World – Tonality and Colour – Presentation Day

This morning Lina messaged us to let us know that she wouldn’t be able to make it in to College.  She was kind enough to send us her work through so we could use it to present with.  She had a nice selection of characters and concepts characters drawn out which I will post below this blog.

Being a team member down, the remaining three of us had to try and come together and present our ideas to our class and tutors and explain our thought processes and research.

Today’s presentation didn’t go as swimmingly as we would have liked but that comes down to our preparation and this is definitely something we as a team will need to work on.  Our work was good and I am happy with the team I am in.  We are going to have our challenges but the most important thing is to pick each other up when we are down and keep pressing forward.

We have been given the opportunity to now further develop our ideas and concepts over the next 2 weeks.  We have been given that time as we have quite a few deadlines to meet within the next week and our tutors have allowed us to take a longer time to work on this project while we meet these deadlines (aren’t they lovely??)

The next assignment I will be blogging about will be our Photography assignment that requires us to gathered 600 photographs, 6 folders of 100.  The 6 folders we have to take images for are the following:-

Colour
Texture
Light
Tonality
Composition
Depth of Field

Marble World – Tonality and Colour – Day 7

Today I completed the planning pages for layers 3 and 4.  My team and I have started to tie together all our work and designs in preparation for tomorrow when we will present our work to the class and our tutors.  Below are the images of my planning pages and further down are some concepts from the various layers that I created.

After completing these, Rosie sent the team through her drawings and sketches of the animals for layer 4.   These will be of great use for this week coming as we have to take our work and develop it even further and now that we have physical characters for the 4th layer, we will be able to create more effective looking scenes and concepts.

Marble World – Tonality and Colour – Day 6

Today I worked on creating planning sheets for each layer.  I completed levels 1 and 2 today and will work and complete levels 3 and 4 tomorrow.  Each one will have a piece of architecture from that layer in it, a character from that layer and a colour pallet of what we will use in that layer.

Marble World – Tonality and Colour – Day 5

This weekend I am away at a youth weekend but will be continuing to update my blog and respond to my team if and when they message our group chat.  Today, Jenny sent these awesome concept pieces of work.  The first one below is of on of the streets in the second layer which has a lot of yellows and oranges in it.  I thought this looked amazing.  Below that, Jenny also created a forest styled concept for the 4th layer which will have a dark, sinister forest where more deformed, broken characters will be in residence.  Jenny is really working hard and creating some really nice pieces of work.

Although I am away, I thought I would try a bit of conception art myself.  This is a quick paint designed image of scenery from the 3rd layer.  This will be one of the dangerous layers where things can go wrong and danger is a constant factor.  This is the layer were the mountains from layers one and two, turn to volcanoes and spit out lava through the layer.  I liked the look I got from blending the yellows, oranges and reds to create the lava.  i will build on this and look at further concepts throughout this weekend.

Marble World – Tonality and Colour – Day 4

Today our team shared some images and concepts we have already completed and roughly drawn out.  Below is an example of one of the quick concepts I drew up of the top layer.  It has a cold but bright blue as it’s main colour.  This layer is home to our friendly looking Victorian character who goes by the name ‘Earl’ who has been included in this concept.  The characters on this layer are planned to glow due to the bright layer that they live on.  The mountains (that in deeper layers turn into volcanoes) are also included in the background of the image.

Below are examples of Jenny’s work so far that she has shared with the group.  She started looking at creating concepts for the appearance of our world.  I think these look awesome and super realistic!  We will definitely be looking at these again and using them to create our final draft for the world’s appearance.

Again, Jenny shared these pieces of work with our group.  She began looking at character colours and created these nicely laid out pages of characters and their coloured clothing.  I thought this was really nice and gives everyone in the group a clear indication of the colour pallet we are going with so everyone is on the same page.

Marble World – Tonality and Colour – Day 3

Today we as a team focused on the concepts of the previous team.  We looked at their use of tone and light and from this, were able to make quick sketches and plan on how we could follow these designs, but in colour.  Below are some of the concept work of Claire from the previous group.

Marble World – Tonality and Colour – Day 2

Today our team looked at our choices of colours for the different layers of the marble.  The previous group had the idea that each layer would have the same architecture but as you get to lower layers, the buildings and scenery would be gradually more broken and dismantled.  Jenny from our team but together the below colour pallet for our world which was accepted by the rest of the team.  From this pallet, we were able to start working on concepts and rough drawings.

Jenny’s Colour Pallet

From this selection of colours, I decided to created the below concept image of what my interpretation of the world would look like.  You can see the layers and where they cross over.  I have only included three layers as the last group hadn’t made a decision as to whether they wanted 3 or 4 layers.  We will decide on this and them make improvements in our concepts if needed.

Rosie put forward a theory that she has research that a marble is hottest or brightest at it’s core.  We will use this research to make improvements on our designs and implement this into our work to make it as accurate and real as possible.

Marble World – Tonality and Colour – Day 1

So, a new team and new world.  I have been placed in a team that includes Jenny, Lina, Rosie and myself.  Our aim for this week is to learn to use colour effectively and properly and insert it into our tonal scenes.  With receiving this new world, it will be important that we research our peer’s blogs to gain information and their thought processes from previously working on this world.  John has agreed to help me with information on the world and his team’s previous thought processes as they worked on this work last week and created the tonal scenes that we will try to make our own and add colour too.  I am excited and nervous about this new project but hopefully we will gel well as a team like I did in my previous team.  I am excited to see what designs and concepts we, as a team, can produce.
